Adirondacks: Lake Weather

Mornings and evenings are mirror quiet. Certain days have fair chop.

Some early hours, the mist blankets the lake. If you set out rowing, you see small circle of unending ripples, water making the air a lightbox, a watercolor: one wash cerulean, one amber. In fog, you see each line in your palms. Eventually, it rises, wisping. In clear day, you see yourself.

Located in Sabael, NY, the 50-mile perimeter lake is stewarded by the local lake association, which founded 1976 by a group including previous owners of our motel. The association collects data to advocate with the state regulating body.

Lakeside camping is available at numerous campsites, including on ten islands, with reservations available here.

In the summer, campfires mix with the mist. In the spring and fall, the lake goes quiet.
