Catskills: Magazzino

Magazzino is a gorgeous museum and research center located in Cold Spring, NY, near institutions like Dia:Beacon and Storm King Art Center. The collection focuses on postwar and contemporary Italian art in the United States. Magazzino’s main building is a 20,000 square-foot structure designed by Spanish architect Miguel Quismondo. The museum added a second pavillion last fall.

The museum also hosts Café Silvia, has both indoor and outdoor seating, and serves Italian cuisine by chef Luca Galli.

Recent shows include a focus on Arte Povera, the Italian concept of “impoverished art”—an artistic and political response to established institutions. Other beautiful shows include glass work designed by Carlo Scarpa.
