Adirondacks: Baldface Mountain
To reach the hike to the top of Baldface Mountain, you first cross the water. Walk or drive a couple minutes from Lorca to the marina. Launch your canoe, kayak, motorboat and set out directly across the lake toward the mountain over the shoreline. To the left of a couple smaller islands, you’d find the mouth of a protected cove—the water quiets.
Pull up on the small shore at the back of the cove to find the entrance to the marked trail. After two miles of a moderate ascent, over streams, fallen trees, the summit opens up—you see across the lake, far back toward the first four islands below the marina.
There is a half-toppled tree at the top, that has enough roots in the ground to live. Ain’t that the truth.
